Scout Troops (Ages 11-13)

2nd Russell Scout Troops

A Scout Section within your local Scouting Organization is called a “Troop” and youth within a Troop are organized into smaller teams called “Patrols”.
As a Scout, your youth are taking a stronger role in the types of adventures the Troop is undertaking and your youth are learning more advanced skills.
The motto for Scouts is: Be Prepared

2nd Russell has typically been able to have a scout troop of 4 to 6 patrols, from 25 to 35 youth adventuring together with their volunteer Scouters. The Scouters are there to help guide the program and help instruct the youth on how to achieve their Scouting Year-end Goals, whether that is to go on camping trips or to organize outings into the broader community.

What Types of Adventures Do Scouts Do?

  • Camping, including winter camping
  • knives, multi-purpose tools, axes, saws, fire, camping stoves, lanterns, and other camping tools permit
  • Rock Climbing, Zip lines
  • Paddling (canoeing/kayaking)
  • National & International Jamborees (Multiple groups at the same camp site)
  • Scoutcraft, which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Personal Achievement Badges (PAB) – does your youth have a hobby that they would like recognition for? There might be a badge that could be worn on their Scouting uniform, they just need to provide information about it to the Troop and Scouters…
    • Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) – during their regular meetings, and adventures throughout the year, your youth will achieve various levels of accomplishment that can be displayed on their uniform as OAS badges…
To help achieve the groups yearly goals and adventures, 2nd Russell schedules a few Fundraising Events, i.e. Apple Day, Bottle Drives, Scouts Popcorn to name a few. Not only are funds raise used to help reduce the cost of certain activities, but they are also used to maintain a stock of gear used for nightly activities and camping opportunities. Without your support as a 2nd Russell Scouting Parent attending these events, the activities available to your youth will diminish.

For any additional information, or if you have any questions about our aims, goals, or anything in general, please feel free to reach out to the Troop Contact Scouter, Cindy Hauck to ask about Upcoming Activities.
